Taking an Official Poll

Just got a real painful rejection this morning on that full from December 10th. Ouch times infinity.

Now, two of my books are still out with six agents (all six have had either the full or partial for months and months). But that's neither here nor there.

My poll question needs a wee bit of back story to set it up...

I'll break down the facts so you can make an informed poll decision for me.

- I've been querying agents for a while, and I've gotten close, REAL close. But no cigar.
- I have continued writing and am currently working on novel #5. I'm definitely not a one trick pony.
- I know it is an industry no-no to query agents and publishers simultaneously. I haven't done that. I'm a good rule follower.

Onto my poll question:
Based on what I've told you, and of course everything I've blogged about over the past two years, would you stop querying agents and begin a new query cycle of querying publishers?

If you say yes, please tell me why in your comment.

If you say no, please tell me why in your comment.

I thank you in advance for your feedback and thinking.

*A few things I already know:
I know I'll have to let the six agents know of my decision to query publishers - if in fact that turns out to be my final decision.

I know the big houses don't accept un-agented submissions. I'm okay with that. At this point, I'd be thrilled with a small house publishing my book(s).

Train Ticket Purchased

The NYC SCBWI conference is coming on so quick. I swear I can't believe I head out next Thursday night. Bought my train ticket yesterday, which makes it really real. Checked out my critique entry for the Writers' Intensives, for the 900th time - tweaked it again. It's as done as it's going to be at this point. I hope the feedback is worthwhile and positive...we'll see.

The husband is accompanying me and we're actually meeting my cousins and going to a Mos Def concert in Times Square on Saturday night.

Anyone out there going to the conference?

A Quote is All I've Got

Happiness consists in activity. It is a running stream, not a stagnant pool.
- John Mason Good
- Writer (1764-1827)

I joined a gym last week and received a thank you post card in the mail. The front of the post card had this quote printed on it. It struck a chord with me, and I taped it to the wall next to my desk.

I went to the gym four times last week and even went today. I believe the new leaf is in the process of turning.

Contest is Up...I'm Post 19

MSFV...aka Authoress, put the 50 entries up. She is one hard working blogger, that's for sure. She runs these Secret Agent contests on her own time and doesn't get paid a cent.

Check out some of the entries - they're all YA for this round. I'm post 19.

Feel free to throw your two cents in. Why not?

I'll take whatever feedback I can at this point.

I Did it Again

You know how I swore I'd never enter another contest where other writers help to critique your work in a public forum? If you don't know, well then, read this and you'll feel my pain.

However, despite my public declaration of "never again," I decided to damn my previous view and throw my hat into Miss Snark's First Victim's Secret Agent contest. I will be entry 19 when it is up and running tomorrow. You are cordially invited to check it out and let me know, either there or here, what you think.

Be honest. I can take it.

I'm certain my skin has thickened up nicely since my hissy fit, and I'll be able to take whatever the critique'rs have to throw at me. And hopefully get something meaningful out of it.

We'll see.

I do like the first 250 words of this particular book though. I like them a lot. Let's see how the blog world feels about them...

And that secret agent.

Robert Passarelli ~ Artist Debut

So, I have this ridiculously talented brother-in-law and he just launched his website showcasing his artwork.

Anyone out there looking for a free lance illustrator, I think I found your guy.

Wait till you see.
